How to remove gel nail polish at home?
1. How to remove gel polish? ACETONE
To safely remove gel polish at home, make use of acetone. You need:
- 100/180 nail file
- cosmetic acetone (optionally acetone-based polish remover)
- cotton pads and aluminum foil
- wooden pushers for taking off the nail polish that’s left
- buffer
Let’s take the gel off! Follow the procedure step by step:
STEP 1 – Use a file to get rid of the nail polish top.
STEP 2 – Take a cotton pad, soak it in acetone, press it to the nail and wrap foil around the finger. Do the same with other nails. If the foil is too tricky, you can get remover clips which are easier to use. Leave the foil/clips on for 10 minutes.
STEP 3 – Remove the foil and gently take off the polish using cotton pads; use the pusher if necessary.
STEP 4 – Smooth out the nails with a buffer block. You can move on to pushing the cuticles and filing the nail plate now.
2. How to remove gel polish? GEL POLISH REMOVER
The steps are similar when you use a gel polish remover – a gentle, acetone-based product that is designed for taking off gel polish. Removers are gentler on nails, not causing damage or drying out the skin around them. They leave nails moisturized instead. You use it like you do in point 1 but you need to check the timing directions in the leaflet of your product.
3. How to remove gel polish? FILE
You can remove gel polish with a file but you can do it only when you plan on applying new gel polish after that. Why? A nail file removes only the top and the polish whereas it leaves the base on the nails. The base protects your nails so if you file too harshly, you will leave them paper-thin.
How to remove gel polish with a file?
File the top and the polish off. If you plan on fresh gel mani, you don’t need to remove the base thoroughly. If necessary, cut the nails and give them the desired shape. Now, degrease the nail plate, apply a base and then a new polish.
